    Cobalt-

When you are ready for parts, head over to the Vintage Machine Thread. There are three different tutorials for how to clean up the old girl- Billy is amazing. Also, he runs a business now- both redoing machines and he has parts. You can get so much info it will make your head explode. I need to work on my grandma's treadle. (not nearly as pretty as your red-eye, but it did belong to my grandma and great-grandma and is well used.)

Congrats and good luck on the house to put these babies in.

    Maggie

Thank you Maggie, I'll do that.
I have PM'd with Billy once or twice and I find him a very smart and dedicated treadler(again is that a word?) mechanic. I am kinda scared to dump her into Kerosene (sp) and scrub her off. I do want to find a feed dog cover for it cuz I read that you can quilt with the 66 and Billy said Yep you sure can. So she may be getting her "bath" sooner than later. I'm sure there are a few parts missing so he may be getting his brain picked pretty soon too.

Vickey... what a beautiful and creative story. I can see Faith hand embroidering that and placing it right above her newly acquired Singer 66 of most beautiful decals!

Faith, my sweetest dearest DIL has one just like yours but not a treadle. It is a 1921 Singer 66 electric with the same decals.

I had my DD purchase it in Marysville off of CL and she brought it over when visitingme. Then about a year later my DIL was over, went to my quilt guild meeting with me, got very excited about quilting even though she didn't sew... Sewwww, it went home with her.

That was about 6 or 7 months before I began collecting vintage machines. When I saw the machine some months later and was much more educated about the machines, I realized it probably was the best vintage machine I had purchased. But, it couldn't have gone to a nicer person.

You have to check Billy's tutorial on how to clean a vintage Singer. It will sparkle when you are done!

I may just do that very soon. I blew out my Achilles tendon on thurs. and the Dr. put me in an "Air cast" til the 16 of Sept. to see if it will need surgery. Lets hope not..... :?
So where in the heck do I find Kerosene? Ace hardware I'm thinking? Man the garage is gonna stink.. :|
LOL Oh well, if the outcome makes it look even nicer than it already is then GREAT!! OK talked myself into it..
    :XD:

I found my kerosene at True Value hardware store. Home depot only carries it in the winter. So not sure when they will stock it. It does smell but I have found that when I am done working on it I cover the machine and everything with a plastic garbage bag. That helps for then. It helps to have ventilation in the garage though when you are scrubbing it.
