I have a very old German treadle sewing machine and would love for it to be working which it actually did until a few months ago. Through some kind of error after cleaning it, now the machine does not work any longer. When I engage the hand wheel the needle goes down but will not pick up the thread from the lower spool. It seems to be maybe 1/8 inch short of grabbing it. What did I do wrong and how can I fix it? I would greatly appreciate any help - I am desperate.
This machine belonged to my mother and has been on a trip around the world. Quilting would be its last mission in live.
Thank you - Karin

Here I am!!!
And just to be clear I am not an expert on sewing machines but I stayed at a Holiday Inn once!!!
Sounds like the needle is the wrong one and/or is put in wrong. What model is it and I can check my records and see what the original needle is suppose to be.

I really hope that the problem is the needle. Pfaffs are awesome. Could it be a timing issue? My dealer is pretty awesome with things like that if you can't find an answer. Send me a PM and I'll give you the website address.

Billy, it is a Pfaff 30. I assume 4991377 is the model number.
I am looking into buying a manual. Seems there might be something else wrong. As I insert the needle, they are slightly bending on me :hunf:
