    I had to take a 201 bobbin assembly apart and put back together again a whole bunch of times in a row to try to figure out what was making so much noise. I never did find the problem, but I sure got a lot of practice with that darn ring. RAin's instructions were top knotch and without those photos I would've been lost. take your time and use a small flathead screwdriver to nudge it back in when you turn it into position.

    I agree that Rain has sanity-saving help to offer. Thanks, Rain!

    Don't feel bad. Getting that ring back on a Singer 201 is the hardest meching job I have ever done, and I have fixed and serviced numerous machines. Follow Rain's instructions and you will be okay. If it makes you feel better, it took me three days of aggravation; I did not have Rain's instructions then. Even 40-year sewing machine mechanics I know have trouble doing this because it LOOKS right but doesn't sew.

    Once you get it back working, ALWAYS hold your thread tails on the 201 at the start of a seam and/or use a small piece of scrap fabric for your first four stitches. Then sew on air for a stitch or two and begin your seam. This is really important with a 201 (mine, anyhow) and now you see why.

    Thanks to all your responses, I was able to get the ring back onto the bobbin assembly on my 201! THANK YOU SOOOOOO MUCH, EVERYONE!

    I had done a similar trick on my moms machine years ago. You have to find "the spot" that makes it slip/click into place and stay there. Once you locate the magic spot it just fits in all nice and easy (and secure).
