the reverse is the button with a dial around it - below is the stitch length with a knob you flip for a whole new dimension and then a dial around it - very snazzy knob set up.

tri-flow down in there is all I can say - I just don't see what makes the reverse go back in place.

here is my front! =) Nowhere as much brown, huh?

ok, so it says this image isn't valid. I'll have to take another and try again! grrr. I did notice today, that my bar inside my dial is not moving freely . . . I'll have to look into that!

Miriam, my reverse is a tab, to the right of the dials, that I push down. My bar inside the knob picks 'fancy' stitches. Mine also takes cams. the dial with the bar inside, is the top bar. the lower dial is stitch length on mine. I do that the lever that flips right to left to choose 'cam function'.

boy, did that take a long time!! Talk about heavy - this guy takes the cake!!

Not the same beast is it. They look almost alike though. I must have a dozen Kenmores that look somewhat alike. None of the others have the reverse push a button - usually they are like yours and have a lever. Yeah most of them are heavy and are well built machines. They have some nice features with the disks.

I'm not sure my picture is deep enough. I'm thinking there has to be some spring or part that pulls the machine back in to sew forward. OOPS I can see that yours is NOT the same. Mine has only two knobs. The reverse is in the middle of the top knob. It does not pop back into place. I am looking for a picture of the insides of that machine. I may make a new post about it. Anybody out there have one that works? Mine has has enough Tri-Flo that everything else works beautifully. Love the machine but it is a little hard to use when it only goes backwards.

Miriam, I have a Kenmore 158.17560 with the same problem! Sews beautifully, but only in reverse. My machine looks like mandyrose's. Do hope you can find the answer--this has been driving me crazy. I would really like to get it running myself.

You might go into that area I showed a pic of on the previous page and oil anything that remotely moves. I'm thinking there is a spring or something missing on mine OR I am missing a place I should oil the bejeebers out of. There isn't any button hole setting to get stuck in - some get stuck in button hole setting...

I'll try again with the oil. Maybe I missed a place I should oil the beejeebers out of as well!
