Congratulations on your new machine. My 301a is my absolute favourite machine. I piece all my quilts on her and just finished quilting a baby quilt on her last night. The stitches are so straight. I hope you enjoy her as much I as I enjoy mine.

Joe, where is the belt on a 301? It's gear driven.

Ellie, you paid a perfect price. 301s are going up as we sing their praises and black ones are usually a little more than my tan ones. ebay is pushing $100 hard, then there's the shipping.

ISMACS or Jenny at sew-classics has a free copy of a manual to download. It will help with returning the bobbin case holder to its proper place. You can clean this one yourself. Take the top off and wipe the lint off everything with a soft brush then oil everything that moves or might move except the gears - they get the Singer grease. My first 301 used to growl until I sewed with her without the top while the machine was standing on end so oil would go under some of the fittings on the long horizontal bar. She must have been very dry. Then take the bottom cover off and repeat the process. Open the end cover and repeat again (no grease here). Follow the directions in the book for cleaning the bobbin area (add a drop of oil) and you're good to go. You already see it threads from right to left.

I love mine for piecing and FMQ.

Yeah... The white knobby thing... If I unscrew it, it will leave two holes in the face plate... I can see where maybe there was an attachment light or something there that fit over it ... OR it just made it easier to open the face plate.

the next to last thread thingy does not show in the picture...unless that is it slid around to the inside....it should be in front....I will take a picture of mine so you can see

it may just be turned to the right 1/4 turn due to using an attachment I put cloth behind the needle area so It would show better (or because my sewing table is messy, take you pick ;) good luck )

Oops ..... my bad. I'm used to thinking belts. And I don't have a 301 to mess with.
