Nice collection! I think my favorite is the little 505. What does it mean to be badged? I thought it meant that the manufacturer put someone else's name on the machine instead of its own. Does it actually mean that a manufacturer made a number of different "brands" or names -- same machines with different names?

My Sewmor 606. It looks rather like a Necchi, sort of. She is a great stitcher.

Many manufacturers made sewing machines for other companies. Those were labeled or badged for the retail outlet or company that distributed them. For instance the 158 series of Kenmore machines was made by Maruzen / Jaguar and badged as Kenmores. My mom's old HOTHER 15 clone ( see my avatar pic ) was made by JUKI. Lots and lots of that went on after WW II. Joe |
Caroline,
Your 606 is different than my 606. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one like yours. Joe |

Nice collection Joe. You already mentioned the 303 to me. The 303 and 505 are going on my "watch for" list. I like the little portables and unless I get real lucky somehow the featherweights are way over my budget.
Rodney One big reason I like the 303 and 505 is they are 3/4 size machines rather 1/2 size like the Feather Weights. Yet they don't weigh much. They really don't weigh any more than the FW yet are bigger and stronger. Joe |

SunflowerZZ,
I've seen two of them on shopgoodwill.com. I got this one from Miriam. Joe |
SunflowerZZ,
I know what you mean. I try to buy from the locations with the cheaper shipping if I can. But sometimes I get that stubborn streak going and I bid anyway. Joe |

Some of those products are made to spec and are unique to that brand (like Kenmore and many store brands). Some importers have their own brand with unique products made to their specs which they sell to multiple retailers. Do we consider all those products badged? Some of your Sewmors look unique to me in that I haven't seen them with another name. |
