To tell the difference between a 27/28 and 127/128 check the shuttle. Is there a little button that you press to lift the shuttle out? If not, it's a 27/28, if so, 127/128. :) Pretty new babies!! They take a standard 15x1 needle, you don't have to buy Singer needles...any brand will work. The shuttle button test works provided no-one has ever replaced the shuttle carriage. I've got a 28K with a shuttle release button. 27s and 127s aren't quite so thick on the ground here. If I saw a decent one I might snaffle it up. |
My! How gorgeous! I have 6 machines in my garage awaiting restoration, but I'm not sure they are as pretty as yours! I hope you find time and energy to restore those beauties!

Enjoy those sweet machines.

Oh my, brings back memories of when I first learned to sew. Enjoy...they aren't as picky as todays computerized machines and sew like a dream. It is my dream to have a treadle machine again in this lifetime. Happy stitching or just looking at it if that is what you prefer.

Your #1 baby looks just like my baby. Mine is a model 16.

I'm not an antique machine collector but last week saw an old Singer in portable case for $8 at a flea market. I have an old cabinet machine that needs to go to the repair shop so I measured its base and went back to see if the carrying case would interchange with my machine to make it easier to go for repair. It was the same so I bought the Singer, brought it home and put it in my cabinet and put my machine in the carrying case. Then I got online and found out the Singer was made in 1918 and was a model 66. It was missing the slide plate over bobbin but I found that at a nearby store for $5.00. So now I have $13 invested in this machine and thanks to Billy, I see how beautiful it can be if cleaned up. I wasn't sure how to thread it but it did sew even if not threaded correctly. Just wanted to say "Thank ye, thank ye, thank ye", as Gomer Pyle used to say. I love this quilting board.
