I have been away from this site for a while...about 50-75 pages ago, to be close...and 3 (more) machines have found their way into my life....still in the trunk of the car since hubby knows nothing about these. Two are MW and the other a Singer crinkle coat. Like I said...haven't even looked too close...Paid $5 each for them. I don't want the MW machines at all, but can't wait to see the Singer. The lady said her mother had it before she was married (1949) so it's at least a 1949 model. Don't even know the serial numbers yet!
I need help! This is getting way, way outta hand!! LOL!

So right! I do need help with a decision, though. I am looking at the Singer 201 andor 301 to add to my "collection". Don't ask me why!!!! I just can't decide between the 2. I've read everything posted on the Board and a bunch of stuff on the internet. Ggrrrrrrr No help at all.

FYI, I have a FW and a 15-91 but feel pulled to purchase another model. I'm going to have to grow more appendages to use them all!

Anyway, based on the fact that I have the FW and the 15-91, which would you all buy? The machines I'm looking at run aprox $150 each which is by no means a "thrift store find" but it seems NOTHING ever shows up in my area.

If you have a Free No.5, then I have been told you can use standard needles, 15x1.

Could someone tell me if this is a good price for the machine and cabinet. I can't go look at it and will have to have my bff look at it since she lives nearby the seller.

Thanks!

The Free Sewing Machine Company from 1898 until 1958 in the Chicago and Rockford, Illinois Factories.

Free bought New Home in 1927, but kept New Home a subsidiary company of Free Sewing Machine Co. until Janome Sewing Machine Company of Japan purchased New Home from Free in 1960.

So to answer your question Free made the Free.

I need needles and bobbins for my new home treadle #3678452- [1916 I think]. Do you have them or know where I can get them?
Thank you for any help,

Phyllis

No Debbie, the Free takes a normal 15 x 1 needle like we all get today.

Yes, it is worth it. I have paid $40 and $100 for a necchi and a Singer 15-91 with the same desk; circa about early 50s, IMHO. Less would be nice but I think you are ok, if that is a machine you are interested in. :-D
