I'm really pleased my DH has an interest in the vintage machines and even in their attachments. He's a great one for checking out thrift stores and bringing home an orphan box of attachments. He's polishing up a solid brass thimble that was in one of the boxes. I think he enjoys seeing what can be done with sewing. I've always made his shirts and even some of his boxers and lots of other projects (quilts, table toppers, clothing for my daughter and his two daughters and tons of other stuff. His ex-wife didn't even own a sewng machine and wouldn't have had anything 'home made' in the house. Go figure. But I am happy he enjoys my addiction and participates willingly.

Stopped at an estate sale today. There was a white rotary in a nice cabinet, asking $145, which I thought high. It had a strange, to me, looking bobbin. Not a shuttle, but didnt have a case like I am used to. Looked like it had a pc of spring steel or something in the front of it. It was accessed through a tshirt shaped cover thapoppeup and off. Any insight on this machine. I may have to go back, I can hear it calling me. LOL

AARRRGGG!!! I am so frustrated. I put my machine away for the day and have so much work left to do. I am quilting all my Christmas presents on the 66 this year so I can get acquainted with her. I'm putting pics in here too. I want to use the stitch guide thing to follow a seam so I can quilt between two seams. I have no idea if that explanation makes sense. So I wrestled with this darn guide for 25 minutes before I FINALLY figured a way to get it on with the thumb screw. So I get the darn thing on and then the needle won't go down because the thing that holds the needle in keeps hitting the seam guide. How do I get this darn thing on? All that just to avoid marking the middle of the strips on the log cabin! All I want to do is follow the seam!
HELP! This is what the seam guide looks like before I tried to wrestle it on the machine: http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1321489983.jpg This is what it looked like when I FINALLY got it on. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1321489968.jpg And this one has the seam guide on, and my finger is next to the thing that holds the needle in. It keeps hitting the guide and it won't let the needle go down into the fabric to make the stitch. I'm sure it's operator error, I just cannot get it figured out. http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z...1321490545.jpg |

What is your opinion of the 301? Pros, Cons? I just purchased one, it's on the way, and I'm not sure that I should have purchased it.
I've never seen one in operation, just read about them. Hopefully, it will have been a good buy ($163) It looks to be in nice condition. Anyway, I suppose I'm just looking for a little affirmation . |
