St James/ Koyo
Just picked up an old sewing machine that looks a lot like a 1947/9 Singer (which I bought at the same time). It was named St James. Underneath it was stamped with Koyo.
Tried searching everywhere for a date or a manual on this machine and thought I'd try here. Any ideas on the age/manufacture of this machine. Thanks |
Beautiful job refinishing!

Hi and welcome Tarkine. Do you have a picture? That could help, plus we like to oohh and aahh over everyone's machines. :) Just going by the description, does it look anything like the model 15 "clones"? Miriam started a picture thread for them: Will the real 15 clone please stand up. They are machines made in Japan after WWII where the design is based on the Singer 15. Excellent machines, difficult to date unless you have an original bill of sale or something like that.

I make charity quilts too. Both for Quilts of Valor and The Linus Connection. I'd show a picture of the latest Linus quilt except it was made on my newest machine. A Husqvarna Viking Sapphire 875, has a 10" throat space.
Sharon W. in central Texas p.s. Charlee I love what you did with your sewing cabinet, especially the squares on the side of the cabinet. |
Melinda,
I'm sorry to hear that your Mom passed away. Its so hard when a parent passes, but know that she is in a better place now free from pain and illness. Hugs to you and your family. My Mom passed away in 1999, she died of a brain aneurysm; so it was very sudden. Sharon W. |

Nancy, it was on a charity quilt. People are amazed I choose to put so many hours in charity quilts as so many whip them up zip, zip, zip. But, I do a lot of strip quilts and quilt them all on my 301's usually, so I don't put all those stitches on my Bernina. I usually do meandering or loops on the charity quilts and got through probably 6 bobbins of thread, just in the quilting...so lots of hours and stitching involved. I have posted photos of the strip quilts I do, but I don't take pictures of all of them as I do at least one a month....

Charlee, I am sorry about the loss of your sister. I hope time heals your hurt. I need healing time myself, as my mom passed away on the 17th. Her cancer was too farspread, and she had other underlying conditions, that were too much for her body to handle. We had the funeral yesterday, and she would have liked it. She had a special quilt that she had made for herself for naps that we used as a drape on her casket, instead of flowers. It looked so appropriate. It was then presented to my older daughter because she was her grandmother's most helpful workers(pedicures, floor cleaning, doctor visits). I will miss her so much. We did a lot of things together. I know it will get better, but right now it is not.

Charlee did you paint the fabric squares? I know I already asked, but I don't think you answered? I was curious if they are decoupage or you painted them? They look painted to me, and if so you are very talented!
