Amen!! I think the sellers should figure out that if the reserve is not met, it is probably overpriced to start with, or they do not really want to sell it.

Fact I wish some of mine looked that good on the day they came home...... on one singer I did replace a piece of the top, it looked just like that one, THEN once getting more machines, The price of the veneer was out of the question. enough veneer the do the entire top is around $70 add this to about another $50 in other materails as glue lacquer, sand paper so on.... and a good 5 days worth of hard labor.... Thats if you have all the tooling...

so the last 7 have left with there ugly falling apart tops in place.. yet reglued, sanded smooth and lacquer...

I knew I was taking a chance doing this, these two were going to a lady friend who is a bit of a perfectist.. ok I gave her 4 treadles, 3 went to her with screwed up tops.....

she did make a funny look, ran her hand over the wood and fell in love with the look.....

Bobbin winder , I have 3 with the winder on the bottom and have never had an issuse using those. at times I do have to use a finger and push the winder against the belt, but then at times I end up doing the same on the round bobbin machines

:(Sad face here. I can't get the plug back together on the 301 and the 15 clone wouldn't FMQ - skipped stitches and broken needles. I have the short shank darning foot on the 1970s MW now, then will try the Necchi and last the Elna. The Universal and Kenmore are long shank and I don't have a darning foot for them. 128 is too small. I'll give the plug one more shot tomorrow and then it's going to the LQS. I need to be more like Joe and sew on a variety of machines then I wouldn't be so dependent on little AnnieRose. I can piece on the 15, but that's not where I'm at right now. Grr.

Yes, the Redeye's emblem looks like it was put on UPSIDE down! How funny is that! The Standard had metal drawer frames! Monica, does your standard have metal drawer frames? What a pretty cabinet too! I love the cabinets with the company name on the cabinets.

The Lotus is drop dead gorgeous! I have found one Lotus in that shape - beautiful - and I let a friend have it . . . so I don't have a Lotus at all!

Notsureif, why don't you just make the Sphinx a hand crank - since it is missing the motor mount? That Monkey Wards machine looks like a tank - really!

Well...my kind-of-recently acquired 301 now has come out to play. I was able to try out the FMQ foot I got for her last night. Couldn't figure out why I was having so many problems getting it on until I realized the thread cutter was in the way. Popped that off, adjusted the top tension once, and away we doodled! The foot is very clacky itself, which is annoying, and I never could get the feed dogs lowered, just set the stitch length to zero, but now I know why everyone seems to be so attached to their 301s. It was just easy to make my little scrap doodles. The back was just as pretty as the front, and I didn't have to fight the machine, just figure out coordinating my motions with the machine speed. Wish I had more time to play and start something larger!

Oh and while I am at it, Hazelnut I love your 404! That whole series is just so much fun to use! I have the 401a and the 503a - I use them both for the decorative stitches when doing the little Patchabilities! I also, think it is really cool that you have the Redeye - keep that one in the family! That yellow and tan/white Brother is really cute too, but I know nothing about Brother's! I love the machines with color, though!

Janice you know I absolutely love that Glenwood! The shape is really interesting, but what a large hand wheel! Is that HW larger than normal or just my imagination? Cool looking!

You all know that Pfaff 260 will be mine! Miriam is graciously letting me have it! Yippeeeeeeeee!
I don't know if this has been answered, but Miriam is talking about the zig zag mechanism on the 260 being a lever than you can hold down to widen the zig zag while sewing - in other wards, you won't have to stop sewing and adjust the zig zag! That little detail will make great monograms!

Bennett, some 301's have their feed dog knob stuck. I had one machine that I had to work on for quite some time. You just need to Triflow it and keep at it and it will turn, eventually. You will have better control if you can get that knob turning and lower the feed dogs.

Yes, the thread cutter needs to be removed depending on which FMQ foot you use. A couple of my 301's are missing their thread cutter as I suspect someone removed it for FMQ and then never put it back. The FMQing foot is loud, I agree!
