I just remembered where the knob went - I stuck a green one on until I found it - it is on the back of the machine where the hole cover is suppose to go. It is AWOL.

I'm wondering if something could be made to fit where the clutch goes... I was pondering my DGD's hand eye problems while clean up a derelict old Singer 15. The clutch thing is huge. Why couldn't a new one be made as a crank? Here is a pic of the part on a card I drew what I'm thinking. It would need a bend or curve and then a hole on the end for a knob like used to go on a car window or something that won't come off as it is cranked. It could be changed back and no harm done to the machine. Anyway here is what I'm thinking... Anybody think it would work?

It doesn't look as good as I would like it to look but it does sew a stitch. I still feel a bit of a glitch somewhere when I turn it. The motor hasn't been worked on yet - I think it is frozen up. When I stuck it back on nothing moved. I used some green 'wet' oil I found at the bike shop for bike chains. It is probably too heavy and will need to come off but it seemed like when I used it stuff started to move all of a sudden. I figured this machine could be experimental. I'm partial to the Singer 15s and the clones. I think I haven't got one for parts yet. They all have been able to be made to sew.

Well if 8 machines makes you you a hoarder, I too have long ago joined that club and went on to join whatever the next level or two is of advanced hoarding. I estimate I have about 50 machines and 1 or 2 that I know is for parts only if I could only find them. :D :D In my "craft" room, I have about 15 at least with the rest scattered throughout the house and we (DH & I) keep bringing them home. I eventually hope to rehome a good portion of them.

Wow, I wonder how the Elgin got the paint chipped off like that? It almost looks like someone did that on purpose!
