I think as many boys as girls tried sewing machines.
We sewed holes in paper bags. I didn't really know how well that went over until we saw two of the boys in the log cabin in the dark room shining a flash light into their bags. One boy accidentally sewed hearts on the sides of his bag. (When you unfold the bags you get a different design on the sides.) Some kids wouldn't try at all. Some kids wouldn't leave. One tough looking man that stopped by said he goes home from work and sews to unwind - he said it is very relaxing to sit and sew. He works at a prison. There are things I would do very differently. Kids do not mind steering wheel spinner knobs to turn machines. Nobody laughed at the spinner knobs. Parents were happy to see finger guards. |
