There are kids you want to just put in your pocket and take home

The Franklin was the machine the boys all wanted to try. DH cut the top out of the Franklin table - it was icky - then he put that part on a box frame. Then he painted it. The table was coming apart other wise - it was painted white and not a good job either. The black was an improvement and set off the machine very well. This will go on a display shelf in my shop. Or maybe somewhere kids can test out machines. They also liked the Vindex Special. Some kids wanted to try all the machines. Some stuck with one. Some didn't come near. Some parents were real happy because the kids aren't allowed to touch the machine at home.

BTW while big sisters weren't around Wilbur gave the baby (Walter) a hair cut. snicker

The shirt covers were very handy.

Thanks for sharing Miriam!! All the kids really look like they loved working with your machines. Your granddaughter is lovely, you are a very lucky grandma! Love your Wilbur stories. :)

Thank you for sharing miriam, I think you started another generation of sewers. They all look so intense, good to see them try something that is not push button and instant. The Franklin looks great that way.

The kids were very intense. The parents were more in a hurry to leave than the kids. The parents mostly did not try the machines. One pair of sewing machine collectors came along and were a little freaked out. The adult reactions were very mixed. Some thought I was crazy when you can get computer machines. Some were excited that the old machines could still work. There was a couple disgusted with themselves for throwing out grandma's machine in better looking shape. I'm so glad I took the derelicts.
The Franklin's was the only box that got painted. I think the others need paint before we take them any more places. The poplar boxes were made from some old shutters DS dug out of the trash a few years ago. We hauled the machines in plastic cases hoping to protect a bit more. |
WoW!! It looks like everyone had a great time..... sew much fun!!

very intense What is it about kids, hair and scissors? They'll have a heck of a time cutting paper but hair seems to be no problem. |
