Default Removing Balance Wheel for polishing the metal

I have been working on my National Two Spool Treadle, trying to get it polished and cleaned. Problem, the balance wheel needs some serious polishing, but neither I nor my son has been able to remove it! There are three different screws (all of which are out and safely confined in a closed container), but the balance wheel still doesn't want to come off. We have applied oil, some minor heat, but it's still not budging. Any ideas?

Now that I opened my big mouth, we used more oil and more very gentle persuasion -- the balance wheel came off and it's been polished a great deal. It is definitely smooth to the touch, now! I don't know how long it's going to take me to get this machine completely cleaned up and sparkling, but I'll keep at it! Thanks be that my son is here and helps me!

    Steve,

Thank you. My son and I are very close -- you see my husband passed away about 10 years ago, so all we have is each other and faith to see us through the good times (a lot) and some bad! My son worked as a sewing machine mechanic for 14 years, so he has the background and ability to do some things I can't! I'm blessed to have him!
