Rotating hook assembly help
Hope someone can help with my problem or provide links where I can get help.
Singer 500A, had to take the rotating hook assembly out to clean. Took everything in that area out to clean, no problem. After cleaning everything I was reassembling the rotating hook and cannot get the gear that sits on the hook shaft to stay on. There is a flat spot on the shaft where I am guessing the set screw sits. No matter how much I tighten the set screw, the gear comes right off. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong.
The pictures are of the rotating hook from the bottom. One has the gear off and the other has the gear on the shaft.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your suggestions Clmay. Yes, I have checked on YouTube and online googling for days. I thought I may be wording it incorrectly and have tried wording it differently and cannot find what I am looking for. I will keep trying after a much needed break. Thanks again.

Does the gear have a number on it? Is it 172208? I believe it is a rotating hook bevel gear. I can't read the one on my 503 but it only has one set screw. My set screw does not line up the same way as your first picture shows.
I believe bkay may have a point might not be on then flat spot. Did it work before you took it apart?
With the bottom gear off turn the hand wheel until the needle is in its highest position. I'm thinking the flat spot on the shaft would be in the same position as shown in your picture. Try screwing it on again. You should be able to have the head of the set screw below the edge of the hole it screws into.
Have you tried screwing the set screw into the gear with it off the machine and can you see the screw on the inside of the hole that goes onto the shaft?
You might see if the pdf at https://sewingdude.wordpress.com/201...ervice-manual/ might help. I see that the bevel gear that you took off is labeled, but don't see any reference to it in the text, but I just skimmed through it.
