Default Singer 15 clone questions.

Hello! I’ve recently started sewing again and have been mainly messing with antique singers. I have a 1906 27 treadle and a 1907 66 back clamping treadle… both have been wonderful. I’m currently practicing FMQ with the 27. I’m terrible at it but I’m loving it. But back to the topic at hand…

my granny has her grandmother’s Rockford machine, I think it’s a 15 clone? It’s belt driven and I want to eventually treadle it and use it for free motion… I’m curious if it’s possible to know which 15 it’s a clone of?

Welcome to QB. If it is an electric 15 clone, it would be of a 15-90, however, it would thread differently. A manual for a 15 clone can be found at https://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_mac...ion-manual.pdf
There is a thread that shows a variety of 15 clones as well as some original 15 machines at https://www.quiltingboard.com/vbulle...p-t164361.html, but I wouldn't call the first picture a 15 clone, but it is a 15 class machine. If you would want to treadle it, you would probably need a spoked hand wheel. Also I believe some class 15 machines cannot be treadled, but if the bed ends so the hand wheel sticks out beyond it, it should be possible.

There was also Free Company in Rockford Illinois that made some machines that have a nose end tension and those would not be considered a 15 clone and some that I wouldn't even consider a 15 class machine as they take different bobbins and needles.

We like pictures. In order to post pictures on Quilting Board, you will probably need to reduce or compress the picture to a file size that is smaller than 2MB. How to post images can be found at https://www.quiltingboard.com/attach...020-01-17-.pdf and on an ipad at Posting Pictures From an iPad

Don't forget to scroll over to the far right to find and click on the "Upload" button. As shown at Standard Sewing Machine Co. Paragon

I have found that only the big red "Reply" button or "Quote" work to give me the paper clip icon to work for adding pictures.

Some additional info regarding reducing images at post #4 and images for the scroll and upload button can be found at #5 of quilt block ID?

Another way to post pictures can be found at 2021/2022, 2.5” Birthday Swap
And how to use an ipad to post pictures can be found at Uploading photos and Posting Pictures From an iPad

Or simply - Make sure pictures are smaller than 2MB
Click on red "Reply" button
Click on the paper clip icon
Click browse - choose picture/s. (only 5 allowed per post)
Once they show up as being loaded, Scroll over to the right side and click on "Upload"
After the pictures show up as being attached, you can close that window and go back to the screen to finish posting your post.

Some additional notes -
The photos generally need to be reduced to less than 2MB in size. I have heard of people sending an email to themselves as it will ask if you want to reduce the size.

I have an android phone and when I tried to reply on Quilting Board while in mobile view None of the options for adding pictures was available. However, there is an option down at the bottom left of the page that is for Full Site when I tapped on "Full Site" It then looked like the way it looks on my lap top. So it would have the Red Reply and the Go Advanced options.

Here’s a picture of the Rockford, and thank you for explaining how to post pictures. I wasn’t sure how that worked.

Yes that is a 15 clone. Yes, you should be able to treadle it. I'm not sure if anyone has been able to without putting a different hand wheel on, or not. I am not sure if the bobbin winder would still work with a different hand wheel or not. There are some that think that the clones are as good, if not better than the machines they were modeled after.

I have also heard that the 15 model machines are better at free motion work.
