Miriam, I tied the thread so he/she couldn't abscond with it and I could photograph it. The little thing is sitting on the 15 contemplating why he can't fly away with it. I have other pictures edited to make bird and machine more prominent, but, do you think I could find them. I quickly downloaded this one from my posting it on FB. We had a lot of fun watching his little head bobbing as he studied the problem. This is off topic, but, there is a 15 in the picture.

That is so funny! Apparently they have very intricate nests. I found this:

I have done upholstery with good old Coats & Clark Dual Duty all purpose thread (the old one). The most recent couch has been finished at least 15 years and the seams are fine. It's in the family room so it gets heavy use. It's the same thread I quilt with if the color is right.

The nylon threads are what you need for out door stuff. The C&C will work for indoor.

Great picture Vridar. I love to leave a pile of thinly cut fabrics and threads on my porch in the spring. Then I watch the birds pick at it and take what they want for their nests..... It's better than watching TV.

You all have me really excited now. I'm stepping up my hunt for a good 15. My DGD is excited, too. I told her I would try to get one and let her use it to decide if that's what they need. It's actually her DH that wants to use the machine to make cushions/pillows. He works at a furniture factory and gets beautiful fabrics for really cheap or free. He's pretty creative and wants to learn to sew. I'm all for helping him accomplish that.
