Default Singer 201k needle is hitting the presser foot

I have a beautiful singer 201k that I haven't used for a year or so. The last time I used it it had a zipper foot on and 'the borrowers' have taken my original presser foot. I brought a new one locally that seems to fit fine but the needle hits it when it goes down. The needle is aligned with the hole below and the foot looks right but there is something wrong. Can anyone help? Will post some pictures soon, thank you

Here are some pictures of the problem. Can anyone help advise? Thank you

That foot is for a left homing machine. A straight stitch foot that has the wider toe on the right is for a zig zag machine that straight stitches in the left needle position. The foot you need has the narrow toe on the right. That would be for straight stitch only machines....or zig zag machines that straight stitch in the center needle position.

Left homing straight stitch feet are nowhere near as common as the one you need.....just your luck that you got one, huh!

I thought I was going crazy. I asked the bloke in the sewing machine shop for a needle for a 201k needle and although he didn't have any in stock, he got the one in question off his mechanic. Will go see him today with my pictures and your advice. It looks like my cushions may get made after all 😊

It's like your foot is mirrored from what Singer usually looks like. The 201 takes needle system 130 (a.k.a. 705, 15x1) it's still the most common type on domestic machines. I checked with my 201, and part number for the basic straight stitch foot is #46321, there might be equivalent feet with different simanco numbers though.

Tell your "borrowers" you want your foot back because the shoe doesn't fit.
