I have seen a few 222 (free-arm FW) on CL in SoCal, where VSM seem more common and available than in some other parts of the country (NOT looking at you, Pacific NW!). None of them were listed for less than $1200, and some $1500. They weren't posted more than 1 or 2 weeks. Here, regular singer 221 featherweights are listed in the 250 to 350 range and seem to go pretty fast. Some, with all attachments and the folding table, are listed 450 to 500. I don't know if they get that price but the ads were gone in 2 to 3 weeks (unlike the really, REALLY cruddy looking singer 99 that has been listed and relisted for 2 years at $75, some people never learn).

So I would say the ebay prices you mention are pretty much on the mark. And prices for VSM have been going up across the board in the past 6 months, by my observation. So, if you want to sell, go for it!

Sorry, I missed the point of the post entirely.

Well..they are lovely...just a gem of a machine, both the 221 and 222...I see why people want them. I didn't know any had a crinkle finish..that's a new one for me! I've seen the white ones, and the ones people decal and paint themselves, but nothing like the good old black ones!

I've only seen crinkle finishes on some other machines but I don't think they are very attractive.

I felt happy when I got mine with the box, manual, extra feet etc. It is a 221-1 and the decals and paint are in excellent condition.

The 222 is rare and most were made in England. If you have one don't sell it cheap. They usually will fetch at least
$1000.00. Most have come in from England or Canada and have to be converted from 220v to 110v by installing
a 221 motor. I bought mine from England and paid the shipping all for around $600.00. They are high priced here in
    the USA.

The ones that have been repainted in the bright colors are going for high prices, though.

I would think that anyone who pays $1200. for a regular old featherweight has more money than sense.

The topic isn't about a "regular" old Featherwight, though, it is about the 222. Those sell for 2x-3x as much as the 221.
