Any chance you could just mount the Adler on a heavy bench and hand crank it? It has the hand wheel on the front of the machine doesn't it? Or is it on the right end?

I took a couple of new pictures just for you. The wheel is 16 inches. This the tailor table it's always been in, I assume it's perfect. I can't put a belt on it until the puppy stops eating leather. She's already had two.

You have a nice-looking Singer 31-15 treadle there. If you still have the pieces of the two chewed belts, maybe you can use big paperclips to splice enough good belt pieces together so you can play with it while pup is still a pup. You can leave one clip open just enough to twist the belt out of it, and put it on and take it off as needed. It won’t matter how many clips you have in a belt, it may just sound different but still sew.

I think I saw Lew’s Singer 31-15 over on Gretchen’s thread, but it may have been the seller’s photo. I hope he posts another one, if so. I haven’t seen any others.

It might be fun to build your own treadle out of wood for your Adler. The type that you see on foot-powered lathes and even on some spinning wheels. You’d still have to come up with a flywheel and pitman, but some sewing machine treadles had really small flywheels on them.

I'll take a another set of photos in daylight tomorrow.
The table top veneer isn't very good but the base and machine aren't bad.

It was very very well used. I haven't cleaned up the table proper yet. Just dusted, cobwebs, and that sort. There is still 1/2 spool of thread around the wheel gear. And I'm pretty sure the Singer badge on the side of the table might be a different color. All in good time.

It's beautiful. I like to think of the people who first got mine - how it changed their lives.
