Another post (I don't usually do that), but I figured I could do most anything fancy if I wanted to, and I have really used my machine. Bernina killed designing for some folks using the 401A but I still love mine and I have used it for everything.

Your fault. I now have another 401A, manual, several feet, 5 cams, accessories box, lots of rifraf labled $.15 on each package,
a steel table and a chair. ( sigh)

as found. I oiled it, but it runs very slowly, turn by hand well. Hmmm where is that foot controller for the other one?

There is a lot of info on here for the SINGER 401. I like them a lot and have had quite a few go through here. I have seen all kinds of different problems with them. Once the problem is resolved, they are great machines. That said, my go to is a SINGER 403.
