Default Singer 99K restoration: stuck crank handle?

    Hi everyone,

I'm new here! Looking for some insights from all of you experienced folks!

I just acquired a singer 99k (around 1930s I believe) and the wooden handle part of the hand crank seems fixed to the shaft. It does not rotate. Is this normal, or should I be looking to feed some light machine oil on either side to see if that will ease the seizure?

    Thanks

Welcome aboard I can answer the first part. It should indeed rotate on the axle. I can't recommend what lubricant to use on wood

Welcome to Quilting Board. I only have a few hand cranks. I'm pretty sure the pin in the handle is press fit and not screwed on. I have one that there was a replacement handle was put on and as cranking it loosens the screw, so have to stop and tighten. I'm not sure about oiling wood. Hopefully, someone will be along shortly to help with this.

Thank you all. This gives me the confidence to oil it and let it wick down into what must be some gunk and rust. Fingers crossed!

    Hi All,

A good amount of oil later, and the wood is now spinning freely. Now I just have to put it all back together! It's in great condition, so hopefully no surprises...

    thanks again for the guidance
