Singer/Alphasew sewing machine

Singer/Alphasew sewing machine
I was wondering if anyone could give me some information on a singer/alphasew 221 sewing machine. There is one on craigslist for $500. It looks just like a featherweight and is made by Singer but its a replica not sure how that works if its made by Singer how can it be a replica. Wouldn't it be a featherweight if its made by Singer. Would the value be more or less than a Singer featherweight 221. Its in very good condition but not sure if its worth $500.
Any input would be appreciated.
Thanks Dixie

Those Alphasews are not Singers. They're Asian made reproductions. My understanding is the fit and finish isn't as good as on a real Singer. I'd wait. You should be able to get a real Featherweight for quite a bit less than $500.

Check your estate sales in your area. around here they vary in price from $200.00-$450.00 but in great/mint condition with attachments and the manual. May even want to check some pawn shops. I often check the local quilt shops. One of the quilt shops here has a binder you can look at to see what may be for sale. Many go to Craigslist, etc. Goodluck!

I've seen one of the Alphasew reproductions in person, and while they may look nice in a photo, they really aren't as refined as a vintage genuine Featherweight. $50.00 maybe, as a curiosity to look at, but not $500. I don't think the Alphasew is up to any real sewing. Wait for the real thing, it is worth it.

No, I think $500 is too much! Even the local overpriced antique stores sell genuine Featherweights for less than that! I have been watching FW's on eBay lately and they seem to be going for around $250-260 right now, for good-looking & (reportedly) functional machines.

Dixie I will keep my eyes open for one for you. You might also consider a 301 big sister to the featherweight I think it is a better machine. I had a friend who wanted a trapezoid table and I not only found her one but the machine in it as well for 200.00 bucks she was thrilled!
