The main source for the old oil smell is the oil pan pad. First thing to do is to remove the oil pan, toss the old oil soaked pad. The pads are available on line, about $6-$7. You can also make a new one if you have some wool felt and use the old pad as a pattern. Wipe the oil pan with kerosene to clean it and to remove the odor (outside). Let it sit to dry.

Congratulations!! You will love your machine and you can learn to maintain her easily. I love the Dave McCallum video. (Hope I spelled his name correctly). Lots of good information there and the price of the DVD will cover sending her out for cleaning.
