It uses a very small bobbin and it is for sutures (stitches) in people.
here is the bobbin next to a 221 Featherweight bobbin

This one was issued to an Army Surgeon who was stationed in Alaska in WWII
It was made in 1941.
I am currently looking for more needles. "Eye pointed" suture needles are not common. Since this was only produced for the duration of the war, there is not a lot of support and spares.
I particularly like the bobbin winder setup... like how it uses the wrench as a thread guide

You may have already found this site, but I really like the ads for the Singer stitcher. "On the Spot Sutures"

LoL, thanks.. NO, not a career change. My days of stitching up folks are LONG behind me (I hope) I am planning to get the pigskin this weekend.
I got this because I think the tech is really cool. I work for a company that makes Surgical instruments as it is (we make cutting tools for working on the retina) so it was also fun to show it around here to folks. especially the "for eye surgery" needles that are as thick as the tools we make (Except ours are actually 25 gauge tubes with a second tube inside moving up and down 5000 times a minute...)
Once interesting note: the case was very "dry" looking and I thought "why not, oil works on machines"... The case looks brand new on the outside now!!! I wish I could do the same for the sun bleached parts of the blue velvet lining
