So this is how it starts huh?
New here.
My wife and I are on a project. Her fairly new $500 Ziz-Wah White machine wasn't up to the task and in fact failed. She asked a local repair man for recommendations and ended up buying a 70's Kenmore from him. That same day I stopped at Goodwill and there in the midst of two others was a...70's Kenmore. I knew they had guts so I ponied up the $30 and bought it. Imagine my surprise when I got home and found a slightly later model Kenmore already on the counter!
Well as these things go, once you start looking for something they just seem to come along.
First it was the Pink Atlas, then the Dressmaker (for which I have no cams ) and just today my first Sewing Machine with Fins - a Universal. None for more than $40. This has to stop though...or does it?
Sorry - haven't had time to clean them up - save for the Kenmore which is in daily use.
Anybody know where I can find the cams for the Dressmaker?

I have a White that looks really similar, minus the fins, to the Universal. Mine has softer corners, though, and it doesn't take cams.

Dressmaker cams are usually available on eBay, and look like these:

Beautiful! A little more rounded than the Universal - but you're right... pretty much identical.
Fortunately the Universal came with cams and a whole box full of early 60's period accutremont including a pastel blue Dritz electric Scissor!
eBay - where America shops for value! I'll have a look.
The thing about the Universal is - for a long time I had Fin Boats. Late 50's - early 60's fiberglass boats that had fins like cars of the era. I no longer do. Then - I acquire a few machines and...Fins!

Cars with fins are pretty cool too, IMO (no, I don't have one). Mark, your '50s White is a beauty! I know most of those really '50s looking ones are Japanese and not technically as good as, say, a Singer 401, but they do look amazing with their Chrome and bright colours. I know myself enough to not start collecting them: I'd have to sleep on them in a short while, since I'd have to get rid of the furniture to make room. Then again, I probably thought that around ten sewing machines ago.
Your boat's pretty cool, Lew. I love that blue! The caravan could do with a spring clean though Why's that bulldog clip on your Kenmore?

I was looking for a good backup machine/possibly a featherweight about a month ago. Now I have uh... 6? Plus the Janome that I usually sew on that decided to be a pain tonight.
Still no featherweight but I have patience. I'm determined to get a steal. I haven't paid more than $30 for any of mine.

Nice set of machines! Let's see I have the Kenmore, use to own the same Atlas and Dressmaker. The Atlas and the Dressmaker went to good friends whom needed them more then I did...lol since I own many sewing machines.

I bought the box because I liked it. Cams were a bonus (although I don't have a deluxe zigzag)
Oh, and yes this is how it starts. My first four machines cost under $8 each. The guy at the shop knew what he was doing in sparking then fuelling an addiction

This is the Kenmore I turned up at GW - slightly earlier
Also one of the Artisan walking foot I've set up for a leather project.
And with that you've seen them all - save for the plastic White

Ha Lew Schiller, I'm sitting here laughing because they do follow us home. Some call out to us. I have several too. It is so fun. I do give some of mine away to friends sometime. Not many. Just can't let them go. But you got yours so quickly.
