The cardboard and the patient are sitting on the floor already so nothing is going to roll away. I don't stand or bend too well so the floor is my work surface these days.

Yup, she's pretty bad and that's after using a brass brush on it.

on my screen that photo is very dark, if I see what I think it is, it via the inspection hole, and is an adjustment screw at the top of the rocker. not anything that needs to be removed.

before going any farther is the upper shaft turning now ??? no?

now I was wrong to get the rocker out the upper main shaft has to be removed first. or at least pulled forward and out of the rocker. so just rear of that screw is the cam and a set screw. removed that.

at the hand wheel end sand paper every bit of junk off that shaft, I mean every bit as smooth as you can get it, because now that shaft has to slide through a bushing and that cam. now you'll have to push , bang and tap to get the shaft to slide.

your not going to take that shaft out of the machine body. only forward enough to clear the rocker.

I have one sitting here to look at as you ask question.

The first pic is looking up through the bottom of the pillar, I'll see if I can get a better one. The 2nd pic is through the inspection plate at the back of the machine.

ok I took that 2nd photo lighten it up turn it straight, blew it up. I doubt it will help at all to take this apart. you can lok right down inside this and see every thing that moves, including the stitch length roller?slide. if all that is kinda clean it's not rusty as all heaven . you have the bottom unhooked, the needle bar is out, take lever out and the upper shaft will not turn. Then that machine has been dropped on it's hand wheel which bent the upper shaft.
one last resort try is to loosen the big screw behind the handwheel .

and THEN

what I would do is take off the handwheel adpater ( maybe) stick a BIG pipe wrench on there and turn that sucker..
