Weird. I use USPS and don't or haven't had a problem. And they are less expensive than UPS or Fed-X.

They don't quibble about the boxes either.

Just try to file insurance claims with USPS. They will find fault with your packing job and you get nothing. I've heard of folks having this problem. I don't find them much cheaper than UPS and claims are supported better via UPS, IMO. We have a business acct. with them so we get great service with UPS and FedX.

the only time I've had damage with USPS was due to the seller doing a poor job of packing. And yes, they aren't likely to honor the claim when it's pretty obvious the sender didn't bother to attempt to pack things well. My gripe is that if you put in a claim - they take the package in full. And more often than not, I'm getting items that aren't easily replaced so I'd rather keep it damaged and deal with it than not have it at all.

With things off Ebay - when I can prove it was damaged due to a crap packing job, I've gotten a partial refund. I've learned to ASK sellers about packing before I bid on machines now. I have no problem paying extra for shipping when the effort is expended to get it to me safely.

It was the Fed-Ex driver that dumped one upside down on my doorstep. But we've had problems with Fed-Ex and the seller said he was shipping USPS and then did otherwise. I was pretty upset as I KNOW our local Fed-Ex is not to be trusted.

UPS is not so bad - the local driver likes to take a few minutes to chat about shooting with my husband (we have a range in the back yard).

    Cathy,

I've got a couple of malcontent sewing machines I'd like to shoot. Can I bring 'em over and shoot 'em?

Joe, have you ever dealt with Meeker's Antiques (online sellers of FW's) out of CA.? I have had contact with them about shipping some of mine to them to sell, and the website looks great, but am uneasy about shipping, though thy have given me exact instructions on the proper way to do it.

    tenngal,

No I haven't. I'll have to check them out and see what they've got.
