I replaced the 155819 gear in a Singer Stylist 477. There is a previous thread with many pictures which shows the gear replacement and many other repairs to the same type machine.https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/.../108367Another thread discusses more about the replacement procedure:http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...7660.htmlThere is also a message on the Yahoo Vintage Singer group about getting the new gear to fit.https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/...ages/108367The Yahoo post basically says that the new gear was 30/1000 of an inch too tall and had to be machined down on the metal end to fit. The main gear and the 2 rods were reinstalled slightly to the right of their original positions to helpget the new gear to fit under the main gear and be in position to let the vertical shaft be re-installed.Here is an article from Singersewinginfo on replacing the 155819 gear: http://www.singersewinginfo.co.uk/457gear/

Oh great. Well, mine is a 457 not a 477 so hopefully I won't have that issue. I don't have any way to machine a metal part. If it doesn't fit...this machine ain't getting fixed by me!
I can't get to any of the Yahoo links. I think I have to be a member of something.
