Miriam; I have picked up several free machines cuz the needle didn'y move only to find out the bobbin winder was engaged. Maybe it is a working machine but has the bobbin winder engaged. One of the free machines was a Singer 201 in decent condition. You just never know.

I've had that happen too. Usually people are getting rid of a machine for a reason - some times it is just common sense to fix it - I have one that had thread wrapped around the bottom of it - nothing else wrong but it sure wouldn't move

Most of my free ones have come from yard sales where they are getting rid of stuff and if it doesn't work then it either goes to some other "sucker" or into the trash.

I've been looking through Craigslist in hopes of finding something for me. Nope, don't think this is the one for me although the belt is just a bit dried out --- and it's only $200

Wow, wonder if this seller has the documentation to prove that this Antique Singer sewing machine was used to make clothes for plantation servants? And it's just $500 -- might be worth that to the seller but not me.

Considering that the machine is a 66 that was commissioned on Nov 9, 1929, he's at least 68 years off his mark!!

ETA: Of course, he does say "servants" and not "slaves".... and there ARE still plantations...

I looked up the serial number also. Maybe he is in a time warp or something. Either way, not at a $500 price tag.
