    Mizkaki and SteveH - you hit the nail right on the head!! Thank you!! I "thought" I had tried everything (!!) - - - but that worked! So, I guess too that the answer to the first question about an off/on - is to "pull the plug"?

    Oh, this is fabulous - she appears to be happily stitching straight seam anyway - now I need to play and see what else she would do. And thank you, too, Joe - I had thought of the controller. Looks like we are good to go now.

    From what I found online, it boasts of being able to sew from silk to leather - any thoughts on that?

    Hah - now that it is plugged in properly the light switch works. No more problems. Thanks again.
