Default Vintage Nakaya?

Hello all! I just picked this Japanese "Nakaya" machine and wanted to see if anyone knows anything about it? I'm rewiring the foot-control, but otherwise it is in very nice shape. It has a Janome motor. Is it simply a Japanese clone of a Singer? If so, what model is close?

Thanks,

Mark

Actually it looks like a Necchi clone to me.

Candace beat me to it. The styling is very much like some Necchis I've seen.

Cool.

And Necchi, Nakaya: linguistically how they are similar-sounding, and hence the clone name....

Good call! I see a few Necchi's out there that look very close. The Janome motor could be a replacement - and I jumped to the conclusion that it was Japanese from the name and the motor name... The instruction manual simply calls it a "ZIG-ZAG Sewing Machine, and there are no references to maker. The English is very good, with the only clue I see to maybe being european is that they refer to the lamp as an "Electric Valve".

The 3-pin connector for power and the foot control has a very close resemblance to a singer bakelite connector.

Another question. I somehow missed this big crack in the motor bracket... It functions okay, but at full speed the motor vibrates. The motor is mounted only by the one screw. Anyone know of a source for a replacement bracket? It appears to be the same as a Singer - but I'm not sure which model or part number. While I'm at it, a part number/source for a new belt? Thanks for any advice!

Another quick question. The wife (and possible user of the Nakaya) was asking about a Walking Presser foot. As I think this is basically a Singer knock-off, can an appropriate Singer Walking foot be used? If so, what do we look for?

Thanks!
