Stay far away from this machine!!! It ships from Romania and the seller has a feedback of only 8. YOu can run into these on CL and Goodwill.com.

OK, I have officially joined y'all now :-)

My 201-2 arrived last night with a broken balance wheel due to inadequate packing. So I am hunting one if anyone has a spare to sell.

I will also have to get the hinges to put her in my #42 cabinet. Anybody?

She sews nicely though! And came with plenty of attachments for me to figure out LOL

I am curious though that her serial (#AE314951) indicated 1936 but she doesn't have the scroll plates. Maybe they were replaced with newer ones?

By balance wheel, do you mean handwheel? I have several, and I hate to throw them away, so if you need one I will send it for postage. Just let me know.

I see these quite often listed on my local CL. I guess I'll have to take a closer look at those ads  I need another machine like I need a hole in the head....hahaha....I'm on my way out, in a few minutes, to get a 201 in a nice #40 cabinet  plus I bought a 404 in a cute little cabinet the other day that I found in my local thrift shop. Is there no cure for this terrible addiction??? :-D

A White treadle with "pot rash". Other than that, it looks pretty good. Have a blessed day, all. I'm off to Quilts of Valor meeting.

Quick ? for those in the know - lol

Does my new 201 take a 66 bobbin? I want to order up some more because I like to pre-wind plenty when I am quilting.

eta Do the plastic ones work so I can see how much is left????

Low and behold he didnt, but he had a machine for sale. 10 min later i am the proud owner of a machine in a pristine domed case. I think it is a 27-4. it has a knee presser, made in Scotland 1923. Cant get any more info til i get to a better internet connection, but will be interested in information on this machine. it has several unfamiliar features. oh, got it for $25. Proof that these machines have a way of finding us! now all i want to do is take her home and enjoy! looking around the store trying to find a place to open a shop in a corner. LOL
It pays to talk to everyone you know about your interest in the vintage sewing machines. I got a Singer 99 in a Bentwood case (free!) from my dental hygienist, because we got to talking about quilting and vintage machines while she was working on my teeth. The next time I went to the dentist she had it in her car and gave it to me!! It had been her grandmother's.

Here is a little video showing how to fill the bobbin on your new 27:

And here is one on threading the shuttle:

10-27-1902 to 2-13-1956 with 5,924,909 machines during that era.

The 66K ran from 1907 to 1940 with 2,981,388 manufactured during that stint.

The total Model 66 production from both factories totaled 8,906,297 units.

Geeze Billy, I knew the 66 was the longest running and most popular machine, but I didn't know they were made until 1956! Is there a place we can look at all the different versions of the 66? The Singer history site really doesn't go into all the different version of each machine? At least, I didn't see that information.

I love the old treadles that actually have the company name of the treadle!
