    Miriam, what a nice story! I also love my 503a, but I thought I had read somewhere to never sew without a cam in the machine? I have never tried to even sew a straight stitch without the '0' cam. Are you sure the 503a can sew a straight stitch with no cam inserted at all?

    Well, my 403 sews with out a cam... Shouldn't be any different on a 503 - test it out just for giggles and let me know - It sure doesn't zig zag without a cam.
    My old sewing machine guru said its a good idea to keep a cam in there all the time, its better for the machine.

    amboo, my 128 from 1952 has a black cord. I would think that's a replacement.

    vintagemotif, Little Miss leader will be pretty when she's cleaned up. Since the weather has been better so I can open up the house, I haven't had time. I'm sure it's the same machine as Mollie'smom's.

    Back on page 1112, I inquired about buying spools of leather, rather than belt kits.( http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-43881-1112.htm#3349480 ) However, a huge influx of new machines overshadowed my inquiry, and no one responded. So, now that we're on the subject of belts . . . are there any pros and cons on the subject of buying spools of round leather, or beveled? One spool will belt many machines, and is less expensive than 5 new belts from my local dealer.

    I am interested in this machine, have replied and haven't heard back. Since posting a question on this thread about my featherweight about a month or so ago, I have been having a good time reading old posts, but am only up to about page183! Love looking at all your old machines and am finding myself increasingly drawn in........!!!!
    Did that person ever reply? I do hope you get the machine!
    She replied asking me to phone her, but didn't give a number! :roll: Still working on connecting! She says in her post that the cord is missing, but it seems like I can see it in the picture.
