From what I understand, you can call Singer's customer service and they can tell you the actual date your machine was made. I'm probably going to try that tomorrow with this 201, since it's my first "real" Singer...(I have the 9W treadle machine, but it was made at the old Wheeler & Wilson plant, using a Wheeler & Wilson design, and a Wheeler & Wilson serial number...it's really a W&W with Singer decals!)
Thank you Charlee, for your info. I thought that was cute, being born almost when I was. Wish shipping wasn't so high, I would like to find Prissy a new home.

I just bought a 1916 Tredle Singer machine however it is in bad shape with rust and the cabinet will need to be done but can you tell an easy way to get the rust off. I checked the serial number and found out it was made in 1916 in Scotland. So I have done some research... Just want to get it fixed up for my antique bedroom lol

If you could post a few photos of the machine and treadle. We would love to see it and with it being made in Scotland that makes it just that more special!!!

Charlee I am not sure how much to ask for it. I guess I should put it up on the classified thread. It is nice but I just can't mess with it . I want someone to use it. I think its silly to have something working and just have it sitting for show. I have gotten all of my vintage machines working and use them all at one time or another. I still have a 201 in a deco desk that I need to get working. I am slowly cleaning out all my vintage machines. Of Course my slants are not going anywhere. lol my favs. I just need to get a 500 and a 301 and I will have them all.

I have not made a decision to buy this yet. Ya know, I have spent about $500 in the past few weeks on vintage machines... 2 handcranks, FW and a 1921 portable! I will let you know if it isn't to be for my collection!

I know the feeling next month is the month that everyone is graduating around here. My wife was telling me that we are going to be spending a lot just on presents for these kids.

She mentioned something about me spending more time in the garage instead of playing on the computer.
