You should not have a problem selling your treadle and $100 is a good price. If I didnt have all of these parties and things to do for graduations I would jump on it and get it myself but I already have one coming from France I am waiting on.

I want to find a vintage machine that will do a chain stitch. I will use it to sew quilt backs to the leaders for the longarm. From the little bit of research I have done, it looks like a Singer 30 or 24 or a Willcox & Gibbs would be the best bet. Does anyone have any advice on what machine to get (assuming I can even find one at a good price)?

My DH's grandpa had treadles in his bbq place for kids to play with!!! EEEEK. Wish I had one!

Ok....I took the faceplate off to take a look and low and behold I worked the lever and the presser foot went down. I also noticed that it is a bit gunky in there and the presser foot lowers slowly....but it lowers. Now I also noticed that the screw that is attached to that lever was loose so I tightened it. I brough the presser foot back up and then lowered it again and that screw loosened again.(sorry if my terminology is incorrect but although I am mechanically inclined this is all new to me.....in other words my first)MY question is....is that screw supposed to be tight or loose like it was?

Dunster, the Wilcox and Gibbs, in good condition is a beautiful machine! I've only ever seen one, in a LQS here...I'll keep my eyes open for you!

I see you met the screw from Hell!! That is the one that if you have to take it out you have to remove the presserfoot bar.

But for this question, loosen it up a bit (one round or so) and make sure the presser foot lever is on the screws shank (wiggle it around until it is against the screw head) then you tighten it up and you should have no problem.

If it still is giving you grief then you will have to pull the presser foot bar out of the machine and completely remove the lever and see if there is nothing behind the lever or the screws head.

But do not be scared of this it is really easy to do and not that complicated. But first try wiggling it first. And if that doesnt fix you up then I will walk you through how to take it apart.

I need to be out in the studio working on a quilt but I am having too much fun with you guys here in our shop!!

Oh before I forget be sure to put some sewing machine oil on the screw and lever. That might be another reason it is doing what it is.

Does anyone know anything about Western Electric Vintage Sewing machines? I believe they came out in early 1900's.
