They are prone to over heating and sticking in the on position. I always recommend that they never be repaired. Please just replace it.

Thanks, Cathy....my DH said the same thing about them. Don't trust them. New parts list has been started, pending a return e-mail from Sew Classic. I just need to be sure I'm getting the right parts and not something that looks right but isn't.

Today while looking for tailor chalk in my one sewing machine cabinet, I came across directions for the hopping spring. Cathy had given me the spring, but I don't even remember Cathy giving me the directions to the spring that night. We had been chatting about all the darning feet for FMQ and posting the photos of the springs onto QB that I may not have noticed the directions.

Weird things do happen in the drawers of vintage sewing machine cabinets. Sometimes parts for one machine, not the machine that is in the cabinet, can be found in the cabinet drawers...which leads to the next machine- at least that is what has happen to me numerous times.

Anyhow, here are the directions to the hopping spring that was found in my Two Spools cabinet...like why in the heck would I use my Two Spools for FMQ. I think I'll blame it on the vintage sewing machine spirits...they like to mess with us.

Monica, first off I haven't watched American Idol yet this week - it is recorded so I am going to try and watch it tonight!~ I'll be on the lookout for Steven and his comments!

Second, thank you so much for posting the photos of the original hopping foot instructions! I need to print this page!

SuzieQ, wow I haven't seen you on here for a while! Welcome back! I don't know if any of us can date your Kenmore, but I bet if you search Yahoo there is a Kenmore site that could date your machine? Good luck!

Wow, I learn something new everyday! Monica thank you for posting those photos, I don't have a Necchi! I didn't know there were machines with needle plates that move for different sewing positions - I thought you always had to just change the plate out! Wow, how interesting!

Glenn, thank you so much for the tute! I am almost ready to start cleaning my two 31's so I am printing out your instructions! I haven't been able to mess with the machines for a while, too busy getting my annuals planted! I am really excited to try your method!

Thanks, but I don't have a cabinet and although I like my treadles - I want this electric machine to stay in its cabinet.

This is my first time to look at the blogs and just stumbled or bumbled my way to this blog. Wow, I did not know that the sewing machine I inherited from my aunt might be desired by folks. It is a treadle Singer in its original cabinet. A local sewing machine repairer said to bring it in and he would clean it up and put a new belt on it. Think I will take it in. Don't know how old it is, but it was already well used back when she made me baby clothes in 1946. I am going to go in the sewing room and check it out a little closer.
