Here is a picture of the New Home emblems. One says "Exposition Anniverselle 1889." The other one says "Republique." This is why I thought maybe this model was some sort of anniversary model for New Home? There is also something like a grayhound dog on the bed.

Billy I thought initially the emblem said 1869, with these pictures I can see it says 1889! Was this machine some kind of anniversary for New Home?

Go down about a 4th of the page to the title "Late 19th/20 Century New Home Machines."

The 3rd paragraph starts, "After the Free Sewing Machine Company took over New Home some models were sold under both the New Home and Free Name (as well as other badged names). New Home machines started to use letters in front of their serial numbers in about 1930. The letters represent the model type. This applied to all models, including those with Badged names."

This is a Needlebar site, so I believed them. My New Home starts with the letters NHR 114370, which I take means New Home Round bobbin?

Anyway, I just learned something about the "Free Sewing Machine Company" too. Although, I think the treadle I am inquiring about is way before the take over.

    Nancy
If the Needlebar says its so then you might as well take it as gospel! They will not present anything or publish anything until it is thoroughly investigated and debunked!!

Billy can you age my New Home by the serial number? NHR 114370?

    Nancy

I will go take some pictures and post them.
That is a gorgeous machine I will say that!! But I have no records for the letters in front of the numbers. All I have are just the numbers to 1930.

Really, that just goes to show we can't believe everything we read! I read that New Home didn't put letters in front of the serial numbers until 1930. Now, I am even more interested in the year of my machine. I will have to call that number on Monay and find out what year mine was made, although, I know it is not anywhere near the age of yours.

    Billy,

Here is a picture of the slide plate from my 1891 New Home and as you can see the first digit sure looks like an "L". I had called Janome last summer on dating it and couldn't remember if we decided it was an "L" or a 1. I called Janome today and it is a 1. Sorry, I made a mistake, I'll admit that I'm not perfect!

OK Judy, this clears it up. I was still very confused thinking you had a New Home with a letter in front of the serial number!
