There are a few bargains there, though I am not sure what type of machine you are looking for.

BAAAAHHHAAAAAA - I have a partner - my sister - she calls them or emails them and offers a fraction of what they are asking. If she gets it cool (and she has! Then she tells them her sister will pick it up...) Then if she doesn't I wait a few days and make a slightly higher offer. Some times it works.

Thank Mark, I like the old singers up to the 400 series. Not a fan of plastic gears.

Forgot to mention, I emailed the 2 vintage singers and never got a response...

    Miriam, You are AWESOME!

Just out of curiosity, What does your sister tell them?

I find phrasing these things on the difficult side.

The 500A and the 503A are great machines as well.

That " vintage sewing table" for $175 looks like a decrepit old backgammon table I wouldn't pay 20 bucks for. It's Dallas. They even DREAM big in Texas!

I have a favorite thrift store, not a big name one, that I have pulled my featherweight, 301a, 99k, 15-91 and several Japanese clones out of. But I have never ever seen a sewing machine in any Goodwill or Via thrift shop in my area. Not one machine-- not ever in a Goodwill. Guess they are all sent to the online auction house.

I guess we all have our different frustrations in our own areas of the country.

i love Craig's list, I am prepared to wait for what I really want and buy what I didn't know I wanted lol when I get a great deal.

I find prices on CL in the Denver area to be way overpriced. If there is a bargain, it is snapped up within minutes of posting....and you better be able to make the pick up drive in under 20 min. If it looks old and is a singer, the general asking price is $150 and up regardless of condition or functionality. That's not a bad price for a fully reconditioned, rewired 201 and an awesome deal for a FW, but of course, if it were a 201 or a FW it would be gone by the time I saw it. I even saw one add recently for a beat up old 66, non working and missing parts, asking $1500!!!!!!!!

Not sure if you noticed it, but in the first ad there is a centennial 127 in a bentwood case for $40. (In addition to the T&S in the first picture.)

I don't think it's productive to tell people that their price is too high. Just tell them what you can spend. Anything more is just opinion, and some people don't want to hear opinions no matter how informed yours might be. If they don't get a better offer and they really want to sell it they may contact you. I always put my phone number in the message -- I think it helps.

I watch the overpriced ones, and wait a month or so and then email about them. I've watched as some come down in price to a reasonable level.

I figure it's a waste of time to offer way less the first few days a listing shows up, but after they have no bites for several weeks, they may be interested. . .
