Default Weight for a Domestic 153 MG

After reading about featherweights and 301s, I decided to weigh my Domestic 153 mg. With the base and a controller, it tipped the scale at 20 lbs. 4 oz Pretty lightweight in my modest collection

Leon,

That's a doable weight. It's about 4 lbs heavier than a 301.

I am quite used to hauling my 99s out to play.

99s are heavy, with the exception of the aluminium cast ones. Maybe I will be lucky some day and find one. What type of bobbin case and hook is used on the magnesium Domestic? The Featherweights can get this into a thread mess which can be a lot of work to sort out. A 99 has more open access to all the parts around the hook, race and feedogs.

I have found with the Featherweight you have to hold the threads to start sewing. Once I started doing that everytime, the nests stopped forming - just my experience.

That's just a good habit with all machines. I even do it with my newer machines. I also use a thread spider at the beginning and end of sewing whenever possible so I don't have thread tails.

Machine isn't clean yet, but this can hint at the bobbin assembly and the tension assembly.
