I cannot tell that you are actually showing pics of two different machines. Looking at the slideplates, they are identical in the front and back pics. Am I missing something?
This is a Jones Medium CS( Cylindrical shuttle). I love Jones machines. I have one handcrank and 2 treadles. The manual on ISMACS should be sufficient. I agree the handcrank is not a complete, original to machine, setup. It appears to just be a handcrank handle attached to the handwheel. That would equate to only one stitch per crank instead of three stitches. My hancrank has even worst 'pin rash'.
The base is not one for a handcrank. With an original handcrank, the coffin top would not fit.
The holes in the base are for use when this case and machine is inserted into a treadle. Those are the holes for the belt.
Think it is a great machine anyway.
