Default What is it and what do I do now?

My DH brought home a beautiful Singer machine from a yard sale. He paid $5. The serial # is G0803171. I believe it was a treadle, but is electrified. No foot pedal or power switch. Cords frayed at the entry point for a cabinet. When you plug it in it goes on its own. Scary! So where do I start? I would love to use it because it is in excellent shape with bright decals, no crazing etc. Donna

A good repair person may have a cord and foot peddle like you need, if not can order one for you.

You take the motor off with one screw. Then order a new motor, cord and foot control from sew-classic OR you can find a treadle and put it in a treadle. Be sure to watch Muv's video on cleaning and Glenn's info on getting the finish spiffy but only it if needs it. Muv's video is in the sticky - links: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...v-t167789.html
and Glenn's tutorial is here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...s-t193635.html
Also feel free to drop in at the sewing machine shop and ask questions: http://www.quiltingboard.com/vintage...ll-t43881.html
