What's the difference

Boy crocee, don’t you ever think of any easy questions?
OK, the term “modern style of Class 15 bobbin case” can cover a whole range of bobbin cases.
To give you the Reader’s Digest answers to your question:
Straight stitch machines, be them Singer or Japanese, tend to have a narrow needle opening, and be either of the 11-o’clock or 1-o’clock style, indicating that the shuttle race notch is a little left or a little right of straight up.
Zigzag machines, usually Japanese, but others too, tend to have a wider needle opening, and be either of the 11-o’clock or 1-o’clock style, indicating that the shuttle race notch is a little left or a little right of straight up.
The zz guys need more room to allow the needle to fritter about from side to side, whether from movement of the needlebar, or movement of the lower assembly.
Class 15 bobbins can be all different shapes (holes in the sides, no holes in the sides, 1 hole in the side, 2 holes in the side... (you get the idea), but they are all of the same general size dimensions for depth, diameter, and center hole.
Now, can someone else bail me out here???????

I totally understood that CD.
The reason I asked is that my 15-91 is missing the bobbin and the case. I have several for other machines so I found one that looked like what I needed and stuck it in there. It fits but the machine seemed to bind when turned by hand without the needle. I also have several styles of class 15 bobbins but I haven't tried any of those just yet. I need to make sure I have the right case before moving on to the bobbin part. The machine turns freely but with a slight drag due to the motor without the bobbin case in place.

The 15-91 bobbin case has the "finger" in the 1 o'clock position, so the 11 o'clock "finger" position case shouldn't even snap into place.
The only class 15 bobbins I use are the ones with a bunch of holes in the sides.

Here is a Singer 15
And clone - Btw- that hole does not mean anything - just the way this one was made.
you can put the wrong bobbin case in, but it doesn't work.
Here is the clone with the singer case
Notice the notch the end of the "finger" hooks into, it's got one rather straight side and one slanted, that is the easiest way to tell which one you need, the slant side matches the angle of the finger.

Thanks for the picture it helps a lot. It also seems to show that I'm missing something. Theres a small piece on the right side that's missing on mine. I have the retainer thingy that holds the works together. I have the thin piece directly under it. I have the race but that little part under the thin thingy and to the right of the race is gone. At least I think it is, am I seeing things wrong? With the exception of the direction of the notch, mine looks like the clone in that it doesn't have that other piece showing.

In a quest to find what's missing I went to eBay and looked at complete assemblies. This is what I have and it says its for a Singer and complete.

Anyone know what I'm seeing in Macybaby's picture?

In the auction picture, the part at the upper left, which is the race, is upside down.
