Oh My! What a beautiful cabinet. It is just lovely. I know nothing about your antique machines, but I'm glad you managed to get the machine as well. So sorry to hear about your dog, I do hope she is doing better and has no further episodes. We had to have our loving Husky Tika put down last spring really hard to deal with. DH was the one who rescued him from the dog pound about 15 years ago, and he and Tika were so close. DH is still not over it, but says he doesn't want another dog. I thin another dog would help him get over the loss, I have always feel that animals are good for ones, health and mental states.

Steve,
First, congratulations on finding this truly spectacular sewing machine. I had only seen photos of a much less ornate version before, but either way, this shape is hands-down my absolute favorite and yours is simply gorgeous. I just love the simple curving elegance - it's perfect. And the cabinet is just lovely.
Second, sending good wishes for you and Gwen. (I haven't encountered other Gwen dogs - I've had three Gwens - Guinevere, Gwenyth, and Gwenwyn - about 20 years apart, all brown with beautiful faces like your Gwen.)
Finally, in case you haven't already seen what the treadle setup is, I found photos of a similar machine that show the treadle assembly. http://needlebar.org/main/makers/usa...er/1index.html At first, I thought something was missing, but realized I was just seeing the disconnected treadle belt hanging down.

Thank you Linda!
I spent today deconstructing the shelving portion...shudder.

Looking better! All original now..

I can't leave well enough alone, but I wall NOT put new holes in it. so this is what i built to take advantage of the original holes and required wheel positioning. This is a Wheeler Wilson pedal (probably not actually being used) and an American treadle drivewheel. I am looking for an old center mounted pitman petal assy now.

Here are the three brackets and a board of Ironwood. (yes, I just had it laying around) Ironwood is so hard and dense it does not float. The only thing it is missing is the center hole (to be threaded) for the drivewheel bolt.

Long shot

Now I will see if I can find a better pedal before I fabricate mounting brackets for the foot pedal

I think it is very cool that you just happened to have some Ironwood laying around (I made an Adirondack chair out of Ash and Padouk, for actual college credit, and have been strangely intrigued by Ironwood ever since). Making a new treadle mechanism is cool too.
