Oh dear. That machine is the kind that needs a name. It came with a mystery.

Love the scroll work on her 'jewellery'!!! - you bravely found her in the dark, saved her from questionable surroundings and she looks great!!

LOL! That's better than Scooby Doo! Which leapt to mind when I read that.

I managed to clean up everything not related to the shellac covered areas yesterday. Today we're going to go get some shellac, boiled linseed oil and denatured alcohol and give it a try.

I was quite impressed actually, we're trying out Evaporust for the first time and there weren't really a lot of parts to even put in there.

DH and I were talking about that the other night. He was saying that the 201 and the 221 are very similar machines besides the obvious one is vertical and one is horizontal. It's true. The 201 is the only machine here, other than a FW, that I can think of with a scroll plate and even inside they share a lot of the same features - other than one set of gears to turn the hook horizontally, the 221 looks a lot like a little version of a 201.

Don't leave the parts in the Evapo-Rust for too long. Any bar steel with turn black. And it does have a tendency to seep under cracked plating and cause it to peal off.

You could actually use the Evapo-Rust to chemically blacken bare steel parts if you wanted to.

I agree that the real Singer hand crank is so much better than the Chinese hand cranks. I have a 1936 Singer 201K hand crank. I treadle it, my right arm gets sore with too much hand cranking.

    Tammi,
    first....Happy Belated Birthday!
2nd...that is the most awesome find ever!
3rd....that is by far the most bizarre story I have ever heard. I know I would have never been able to do what you did, I would have been freaked out. But then look at the awesome hand crank you got for your bravery! It literally gave me the creeps reading about it. Now here is my theory....that dude is whacked out (I read the Kijiji ad)! It occurred to me immediately that the person you "heard" in the basement was the guy you were talking to on the phone! Yikes!
