Lifter? You mean the piece that pushes up the bit of plastic beyond the right side of the sewing machine bed? The Touch'n'Sew took up all the available space so there was no need for a lifter for that thing. And there was no knee lever setup either.

a lifter, is the black metal spring load thing that helps lift the machine up,, treadles had two hole in this for the belt. after going to elec they only had one hole at the rear for wires.
Touch'n'Sew is a whole different era machine

The 400/500 series machines will fit in that cabinet with no space to the right. The bed of those machines are larger than the machine you have in it.

Hard to say what happened with it if there's no sign of a lift assist ever being there. It does look like Singer intended to have one there.

10X, you mentioned that is is narrower than Singer's "standard" cabinet. Are you aware that Singer made the treadles in two dimensions? I learned this the hard way when I bought a second cabinet to replace a few parts on an older one. New treadles (the cast part) are a bit narrower (both length and width) than the older ones. It may just be the bottom of the legs so the upper holes could be in the same location width wise.

    This has the smaller base

and this one has the wider base

Notice how much farther the drive wheel is from the leg compared to the above one? That is where most of the difference is. However the bottom width of the legs is different too - IIRC, this one is 16" and the other is 15" (I know they are 1" different, may have the actual measure wrong). The top may be the same, I did not measure.

one more note - see how the top cover is off center on the first picture (newer cabinet) and fully centered on the lower cabinet (because of the extra room on the flywheel side).

Can you measure the support lip (width) on the front flap?

the lip only is 1/4" over all the flap 4 3/4 where the old ones are 5 1/4.

the top width 16 3/4 the old is 18

the center on the newer one is 7" on each side

my old cabinet are offset to the left

and distentions on this vary by a 1/2

cast iron singer stands with the word singer on the center brace go like this

23" back of the brace has no patent date

    22" has a patent date

singer stand pressed steel / tube legs

    21" no date

That cabinet with the belly/ drip pan removed there is 23 3/4 " to work with
