I'll have to check the measurement on the wood pitman base. These are both metal. Larger is from 1915, smaller 1940's

Based on your measurements, I'll speculate that one was made fir a larger machine. They need a much narrower lip to fit. And that would be why it never had a lift.

10x, I just checked the one I have. It came with a 201 and has a lifter and a knee bar set-up.

Are you saying I can use acetone to remove the peeling shellac AND the pickle in one move, then follow with stain? I'd love to re-do it darker. I hate the pickle.

using octane. first look up uses of octane, what it's use in / products. on this site most have a little S fit just hearing the word. yet use make up every day or go buy denatured alcohol. not sending a second to think about what in the product.

yes take it apart as much as you can.. get acetone, I like the automotive parts cleaning brushes ( stiff one) and the stiff type used in the kitchen you may want rubber gloves ?? Then some kind of large plastic tube to catch the acetone and crap coming off the wood.

I use save the gallon ice cream containers.. to put acetone in as I use it , place the wood over that large tube

just start washing as if your washing your car, That shellac will soften and just run off the wood, once it's coming off use the smaller stiff brush to scrub out the grooves in the wood, sit that piece a side and do the next piece. in minutes the wood will dry and then check the work and do the spots you missed.

you'll be amazed at how simple it is to strip these down to bare wood. you will end up having to do very little sanding

this works especially well on the old cabinets with the ornate woodwork or spindles

check that knee bar set-up, I bet it's just a bracket to store the pedal in.
